WILLOW IN SCHOOLS
I am a fully qualified (B.Ed Hons Secondary) teacher who has been teaching both children and adults in a wide range of schools, colleges and non-educational settings. I have experience teaching children and adults with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and young offenders.
I strongly believe in the practical dimension of learning and aim to deliver activities which are fun, engaging and develop other areas of the curriculum (particular art, design and technology and maths) in a discrete way.
Sessions delivered to children offer practical activities linked to the National Curriculum, session plans, differentiated worksheets and extension activities are also provided.
Sessions delivered to staff are once again practically based and tailored to individual schools/teachers needs. National Curriculum information and suggested activities are provided. Sessions usually focus on willow weaving sculptures and functional objects (animals, baskets, abstract weaves and weaving frames etc.) and creating willow frames on which tissue paper skins are placed (lanterns, animals, mock ups of buildings etc)
This section has an additional page where parents can access pictures of previous sessions- for child protection issues this page is password protected. If you are a teacher and wish to access this area of the site please send me an e-mail.

Teacher Training
I offer teacher training sessions based around the Primary National Curriculum.
The photos show 2 sessions held at Shepley Outdoor Education Centre with teachers and teaching assistants from various schools from the Kirklees authority and willow for the garden- making items for the school garden and learning skills that they in turn can teach to other staff and the children
I am also able to come into individual schools to offer training on INSET days- either providing ideas for what willow based activities teachers could incorporate into their teaching or building larger structures (usually living willow)
